The semi-upright Pride of Madeira is arguably one of the most beautiful viper's bugloss species, producing up to 100 long, intensely blue flower spikes in early summer that attract swarms of bees and butterflies. It grows up to 1.5 meters tall and arranges its branches, spreading up to two meters, like a large candelabra. At the ends of its shoots, it develops hairy, gray-blue, and velvety soft leaves.

Natural habitat: Echium candicans originates only on Madeira, where it grows in the lower elevations of open laurel forests. It is now also widespread around the Mediterranean.
