Mexican chia belongs to the sage family. The Aztecs already valued it as an important food source. And rightly so, because chia boasts a high content of omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. This annual herbaceous plant reaches a height of up to 1.75 meters and delights in autumn with its vibrant blue or white flowers on numerous whorls. Due to its abundance of healthy ingredients, chia is said to promote health in a variety of ways. Chia gel, when soaked in liquid, has a high satiating effect and is therefore often used to support weight loss.
Originally from Mexico, chia is now also cultivated in Guatemala, Bolivia, and even Australia.
