Moso Giant Bamboo

This bamboo, belonging to the grass family, reaches heights of up to 30 meters in its native China and is one of the tallest bamboo species in the world. In our latitudes, five to ten meters is more realistic. It grows rapidly (up to one meter per day in its natural habitat) and develops culms with a diameter of up to 18 centimeters when mature. The elongated leaves grow close to the culm and provide excellent privacy screening. Due to its material properties, Phyllostachys pubescens is frequently used for parquet flooring and is also popular in its native region for its edible, highly palatable shoots.

Natural habitat: Moso bamboo is native to southern China, north of Guangzhou. However, it can also be found in Korea and Japan. It was first introduced to Europe at the end of the 19th century.
