Golden beet with a mild, nutty and firm texture

Goldana is a fast-growing, yellow beet variety. Its pale yellow flesh is flavorful and tender. It is one of the best beet varieties for late planting, retaining its excellent mild, nutty, and firm texture well into winter without becoming woody. Although the variety reaches 10 to 13 centimeters at maturity, its best flavor and maximum texture are achieved at around 8 centimeters. Patience is essential with this variety, as it grows more slowly than others, but the wait is worthwhile.

Natural habitat:  Beets are believed to have originated in the Mediterranean region. Today, Germany is one of the main growing areas in Europe.

In the kitchen:  Beets are popular when served with a creamy sauce, herbs such as parsley or chervil, and potatoes. They also taste delicious in casseroles or low-carb lasagnas. Beets are particularly flavorful when eaten raw. Beet salad with radishes or carrots, or raw beets with a yogurt dip, is a true vitamin powerhouse. For a main course, you can bread Goldana and fry it like kohlrabi cutlets. You can use its leaves to enhance soups and salads, or prepare them with a splash of lemon juice, similar to spinach. Large leaves can also be used for roulades.
