Great symbolic power and calming for a restful sleep
Passiflora incarnata is used medicinally and should not be confused with Passiflora caerulea, which is commonly available as a houseplant. Passiflora incarnata is a climbing shrub that develops a thin stem up to five meters long with deeply lobed leaves. Tendrils with long-stalked, up to eight-centimeter-wide, white, red, or violet flowers emerge from its leaf axils, appearing from July to September. Symbolically, the passionflower represents the Passion of Christ: the flower has three stigmas resembling nails. The purplish-red corona can be compared to the crown of thorns, and the five stamens represent the wounds. Active properties: Preparations made from passionflower herb have anxiolytic and calming properties and facilitate falling asleep. The passionflower is also particularly popular during menopause, as it contains several phytohormones that alleviate menopausal symptoms. Passionflower can be prepared as a calming tea. Pour a cup of boiling water over one to two teaspoons of passionflower herb and let it steep for ten minutes. Then strain and drink in small sips.
Natural habitat: The plant originates from the tropics and was introduced to Europe as an ornamental plant in the 17th century.
