Fresh from the garden is simply better than dried from a bag

The evergreen shrub, with its aromatic leaves and numerous small spring blossoms, thrives in containers, providing a continuous supply of this popular seasoning for soups, stews, fish, and meat dishes. Fresh bay leaves have a significantly stronger aroma than the commonly available dried leaves. The laurel wreath was worn by victorious generals not only in ancient Rome, but to this day it represents a special distinction and symbolizes glory and peace.

native to Asia, bay has become widespread, particularly as a characteristic plant in the Mediterranean region. Due to its limited winter hardiness, it typically survives the colder months further north only in milder climates. Curiously, however, specimens have been planted on Heligoland for decades.
