The evergreen Calcutta bamboo is one of the giants of the bamboo family, reaching heights of up to 25 meters in its natural habitat. In our latitudes, five to six meters are still realistic. During its growth phase, it is a vigorous grower, sometimes adding up to 20 centimeters per day. It develops long, deep green leaves arranged alternately, making it ideal as a privacy screen on patios or in gardens, whether planted in the ground or in containers. Its culms, which can grow up to 30 centimeters thick, are used as building material, for furniture making, and even for bicycles.
Natural Habitat: The distribution area of Calcutta bamboo extends from the Indian regions between the Ganges and Ramganga rivers to China. There, it grows in tropical and subtropical regions up to altitudes of 1200 meters.
