Frost-hardy banana with sweet fruit

Originating in the Himalayas, the frost-hardy Darjeeling banana, which sprouts anew each year, can be grown outdoors in sheltered locations, reaching a height of up to four meters. Its large leaves and stems are streaked with red. With a bit of luck, Musa sikkimensis will produce clusters of delicious banana fruit. However, due to the short growing season in Central Europe, these are usually not edible. The banana plant becomes denser each year and continues to develop through new shoots.

Natural Habitat: The Darjeeling banana originates from the Himalayan region in northeastern India.
