Silvery-blue leaves and an aromatic fragrance

Eucalyptus globulus delights the observer not only with its silvery-blue leaves but also with the aromatic fragrance of its stored essential oils, which also make it resistant to pests and the source of eucalyptus oil. Characteristic of Eucalyptus globulus are its vertically drooping, oblong, and leathery secondary leaves. The primary leaves of young plants, however, are smaller, heart-shaped to ovate, and bluish-green. In Australia, it accounts for 65% of all planted trees. The oil extracted from it has expectorant, mildly antispasmodic, and antibacterial properties and is used to treat colds and rheumatic complaints. Australians also like to add the leaves to a cup of black tea for flavoring. Fast-growing and evergreen, it is well-suited as a potted or container plant.

Natural habitat: The Blue Eucalyptus has its natural distribution areas only in Tasmania and the subtropical Australian territories in the south and east of Victoria and in southeastern New South Wales.
