True Meadowsweet

One of the most sacred Celtic plants - pain-relieving and sugary sweet

Meadowsweet reaches heights of 50 to 150 centimeters. Its leaves are dark green, pinnate, and strongly veined, with a white downy underside. Flowering lasts from June to September. The striking feature is the approximately 20-centimeter-long, funnel-shaped flower spikes, which contain numerous creamy-white individual flowers and bloom in waves. They emit a fragrance reminiscent of almonds and honey. The name likely derives from the use of its flowers to flavor mead (honey wine) or from their sweet scent after harvesting – the so-called "mead sweetness." Incidentally, this perennial was considered one of the most sacred plants of the Celts. It also plays a significant role in traditional herbal medicine, as it is considered a kind of plant-based aspirin. 

Natural habitat: Meadowsweet is found in large parts of Europe, with the exception of the southern Mediterranean region.
