The butterfly ginger combines all the attributes of a tropical beauty: lush foliage, large fragrant blossoms, and strikingly colored fruits. It also thrives in containers, reaching a maximum height of two meters within a single growing season. In late summer, the 20-centimeter-long cylindrical flower spikes appear, bearing densely packed, sweetly scented, lemon-yellow blossoms with long stamens protruding like whiskers. The orange fruits then contain the fiery red seeds.

Natural habitat: The butterfly ginger is native to Nepal, Pakistan, and the eastern Himalayas.
