The hardy peacock shrub is a fast-growing small tree that can reach a height of up to three meters and is very well suited to container planting. Its leaves, up to 20 centimeters long and doubly pinnate, are arranged alternately. Its upright flower spikes are magnificent and exotic in midsummer, with scarlet stamens emerging from 30 to 40 individual flowers at the end of each spike. However, you will need a little patience and anticipation, as the plant usually only flowers from its third year onwards. Your peacock shrub can easily remain on the balcony or in the garden until the first frost, before being brought indoors for the winter.

Natural habitat: Caesalpinia gilliesii originates in the South American countries of Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile.
