The Musa velutina is the ideal banana for growing indoors and in containers. As a dwarf banana, it reaches a maximum height of two meters, displays slender, waxy bracts with pinkish midribs, flowers from at least its third year, and produces red, sweet, edible bananas. The Kenya banana is even somewhat cold-tolerant if adequately protected.

Natural habitat: The red dwarf banana originates from northeastern India. All bananas originated in the islands of Southeast Asia. From there, they were spread by immigrants to Africa and, via plantations by southern European farmers in the Canary Islands, to the Americas, where Portuguese settlers established the first plantations in the Caribbean and Central America in the 15th century.
