Our Lady walks across the land, carrying the fire of heaven in her hand
This native medicinal plant grows as a biennial, evergreen plant with a straight, upright height of up to 200 centimeters. From July to September, it produces numerous, fragrant, bright yellow flowers, up to four centimeters across. Hippocrates already mentioned Verbascum as a medicinal plant, and at Celtic solstice festivals, the dried flower stalks were soaked in resin or wax and used as torches. In the first year, the plant develops a rosette of leaves, and in the second year, it grows to its full glory, producing abundant blossoms. Medicinal properties: The flowers of the mullein are suitable as a palatable cough tea for respiratory ailments with thick bronchial mucus and tickly coughs, as they are rich in mucilage. Tea: Pour boiling water over four teaspoons or 2 grams of finely cut flowers and strain after 10 to 15 minutes. Herbal drops (tincture): Fill a screw-top jar with freshly opened blossoms, cover with 40% double-distilled grain alcohol, and place in a sunny, warm spot for four weeks. Fresh blossoms can be added as needed. After four weeks, strain the tincture and bottle it. Lactose trituration: Finely grind fresh mullein blossoms together with lactose in a 1:1 ratio in a mortar. Spread onto baking paper and let dry. This mullein lactose can be mixed into any cough tea.
Natural habitat: Mullein is widespread in Central and Southern Europe and other parts of the temperate zone.
