My own lemon balm spirit with the fresh scent of lemon
Lemon balm is a perennial plant that grows up to one meter tall and has pretty, small white flowers that bloom from June to September. The herb has a lemony scent, especially when the leaves are rubbed between the fingers. In the first German herbal from the 15th century, lemon balm was already praised as an excellent herb for treating women's ailments, which is why it is also known colloquially as "women's herb" or "motherwort." Its medicinal properties: Lemon balm is recommended as a home tea to calm the nervous system, helping with nervous heart and stomach problems, sleep disturbances, restlessness and irritability, and menopausal symptoms, thus helping to restore inner balance. Lemon balm tea: Steep five grams of lemon balm leaves in 500 ml of hot water for 15 minutes, then strain. Lemon balm spirit: Mix one part lemon balm leaves with three parts alcohol and three parts water and let it stand in a warm place for two days. Then filter the lemon balm spirit and pour it into dark containers. For external use, it can be rubbed on to soothe rheumatic complaints, bruises, and insect bites. And of course, its leaves are a refreshing herb for salads or exotic dishes.
Natural habitat: Lemon balm, in its wild form, originally comes from the Mediterranean region, but has also been cultivated in many monastery gardens since the Middle Ages.
