The cultural tree of Southern Europe!

The evergreen olive tree is arguably the quintessential cultivated plant of Southern Europe and can easily reach a biblical age of several hundred years. Over the years, its gnarled trunk becomes increasingly prominent. It thrives as an undemanding container plant and enjoys being outdoors during the summer. Even when grown in a container, it can reach a considerable height, though it then tends to grow more shrub-like and slowly. In summer, the olive tree produces yellowish-white flower clusters and later its fleshy drupes, which are green when unripe and black when fully ripe. Its oval-oblong, bluish-green leaves have a whitish-gray underside, giving the tree its silvery sheen.

Natural Habitat: The Olea europaea has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region since the 4th millennium BC.
