Peacock bush / Pride of Barbados

Easy to grow in a container, this flowering tropical shrub is very floriferous

The floriferous peacock shrub, whose common name "Pride of Barbados" refers to its natural habitat, produces countless blossoms on its attractive, alternately pinnate leaves. The red or orange flowers with their yellow edges sit atop inflorescences up to 40 centimeters long, with their stamens and styles protruding prominently from the bloom. Tannic acid, which can be extracted from its fruit, can be used to make paint or ink. As a fast-growing container plant, the peacock shrub can reach a height of up to two meters.
Natural habitat: The islands of the Caribbean are the original home of the peacock shrub. It has since become widespread as a street tree and park plant in the tropics.
