Folding leaflets and delicate powder-puff flowers in the evening
The fast-growing silk tree (Persianthus) thrives in containers or can be planted in the garden. Its delicate, bipinnate leaves do not fold inward like those of the mimosa when touched, but rather in the evening and during dry periods. In summer, it displays an umbrella-like crown and numerous fine, pale pink, and lightly fragrant powder-puff-shaped flowers at the tips of its upper shoots.
Natural habitat: The silk tree's native range extends from Iran across the Himalayas and central China to Japan. However, it is now widespread in all tropical and subtropical regions.
