The enemy of all fruit flies

Among carnivorous plants, the sundew is a sticky trap, producing iridescent, sticky droplets at the tips of its trapping leaves/tentacles that emit a honey-like fragrance. This scent is particularly attractive to fruit flies, which land on the droplets and cannot escape. After capturing a fly, the tentacles slowly curl up over a period of several hours, releasing a digestive enzyme that gradually breaks down the flies. In the kitchen, the sundew is an ideal plant for deterring fruit flies from fruit.

Natural habitat: The genus Drosera is found in wetlands on all continents – but especially in Australia, South Africa, and the USA.
