German chamomile is an ancient medicinal plant used primarily for stomach and intestinal problems, as well as inflammation. This annual herbaceous plant reaches heights of 15 to 50 centimeters, and all parts of the plant emit a strong chamomile scent. From May to September, its flower heads display white ray florets on the outside and densely packed yellow disc florets in the center. Its medicinal properties: Since antiquity, healers have recognized its beneficial effects on flatulence, liver ailments, and inflammations of all kinds. In the Middle Ages, herbalists also discovered its effectiveness in treating respiratory illnesses. Tea: Pour 150 ml of hot water over two teaspoons of blossoms and let the tea steep, covered, for a few minutes. Bath: Add one liter of tea to the bathwater. Compresses: Pour 100 ml of hot water over three to five teaspoons of blossoms. After 10 minutes, strain and soak the compresses in the infusion. Please note: Homemade preparations made from chamomile flowers should never be applied to or in the eye, and people who are allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family should not use chamomile.
Natural habitat: German chamomile (Chamaecy sativa) originally comes from Western Asia and Southern and Eastern Europe, where it can be found at altitudes up to 1300 meters.
