Basis of the infamous absinthe and medicinal plant of old monastery gardens

Wormwood became infamous as an ingredient in the fashionable drink absinthe, which was banned in Europe in the last century due to its hallucinogenic side effects. Its medicinal properties are primarily known from its historical use in monastery gardens. The herbaceous, spicy-scented plant grows as a shrub with silvery-gray leaves, reaching a height of 60 to 100 centimeters, and displays yellow, somewhat inconspicuous flower spikes from July to September. 

Natural habitat: Wormwood is originally found in the dry regions of North Africa and Eurasia, as well as the Mediterranean.
