Fragrant medicinal herb - women's herb for menopause
In sunny areas of meadows and along roadsides, you'll find the pleasantly fragrant perennial yarrow, which grows up to 80 centimeters tall. In spring, a rosette of leaves forms, from which the stem with its leaves and flowers later emerges. Its striking, terminal flower clusters grow in corymbs, bearing small, yellowish-white flowers up to 6 mm in size, which appear from May to June. Yarrow has been known as a medicinal plant since the time of Dioscorides. Its beneficial properties: Because yarrow contains, among other things, progesterone-like phytohormones, it helps with almost all ailments typical of women, such as premenstrual syndrome and menopausal symptoms. A tea made from yarrow is also very helpful for digestive problems. To make the tea: Steep two teaspoons of yarrow herb in 200 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes, covered, to prevent the valuable essential oils from evaporating. Then strain and drink in small sips. Bath additive: Pour 1 liter of hot water over 100 grams of dried yarrow herb and add to the bathwater after about 25 minutes. Beneficial for neuralgia and psoriasis. In the kitchen: The tender leaf shoots can be used in quark or wild herb salads until the plant flowers.
Natural habitat: Yarrow is native to many countries in Northern Europe and Northern Asia, as well as the USA and Canada. Yarrow pollen was even found in the famous 49,000-year-old flower tomb of Shanidar in present-day Iraq.
