Small tree with many fragrant, orchid-like blossoms
Among the numerous species of the orchid tree, the yellow-flowering ornamental shrub is a very rare sight. Even its smaller, attractive leaves are deeply lobed along the midrib, giving them the appearance of butterfly wings or the shape of a camel's foot, from which the genus derives its English name, Camel Foot Tree. The five petals of the wonderfully fragrant flowers are lemon yellow, and the dark purple spot in the center of the flower guides bees. The yellow Bauhinia grows as a loosely branched, small shrub and is very well suited for container cultivation.
Natural Habitat: The tropical and subtropical landscapes of Africa and Asia constitute the natural habitat of the yellow orchid tree.
