The deciduous trident maple is a true rarity from eastern China, whose relatively small leaves have three points. Upon emerging, they turn from a light orange, then green over the course of the year, finally transitioning into an autumnal spectrum of colors ranging from orange-red to fiery red.

Natural habitat: The trident maple's natural range extends from China through Taiwan to Japan, where it grows from the coast up to an altitude of 1500 meters.
