Fast-growing giant with an amazing history from South America

This cactus packs a punch. Popular today for its hardiness and rapid growth, it has been used as a ceremonial and medicinal plant for millennia. This is evidenced by pottery and sculptures, some of which are over 8,800 years old. With the arrival of Christianity in Peru and Ecuador, the Pacahnoi was renamed San-Pedro, and its use in indigenous ritual practices was monitored. Even today, San-Pedro remains extremely popular among ethnic groups. And with the growing interest in psychedelics, interest in its healing properties has also increased worldwide. The effects are due to the mescaline it contains, a highly psychoactive and hallucinogenic alkaloid. The cactus can grow to a height of 6-8 meters. Its flowers are 20-24 cm long, with a diameter of 20 cm and pure white petals. They open at night.

Natural habitat: Peru and Ecuador, at altitudes of 2,000 to 3,000 meters.
