The black and green tea on our breakfast table comes from a type of camellia – the dried and fermented leaves of Camellia sinensis. It grows as an evergreen shrub, reaching a height of up to one meter in a pot. The bark of its young twigs is initially reddish and covered with white hairs, later becoming smooth and yellowish-gray. Its terminal buds are also covered in silvery hairs. Its creamy-white blossoms, with their dense cluster of golden-yellow stamens in the center, create a charming contrast to the dark green, glossy leaves.
Natural habitat: The tea shrub originates in Burma, India, and southern China.
