A delicate, early-blooming beauty with a furry charm

With its silky-haired stems and bell-shaped, violet-blue flowers, the pasque flower is a real eye-catcher. This perennial grows to about 15 to 30 cm tall and forms loose clumps with finely pinnate, silvery-green leaves. The flowers only open in sunshine and close in rain. After flowering, fluffy, feathery seed heads develop, resembling small cotton balls. Traditionally, the pasque flower is planted in rock gardens, where it looks particularly natural among rocks and pebbles. 

Natural habitat: The pasque flower is native to Europe and grows primarily on calcareous, sunny dry grasslands, meadows, and in open pine forests. Due to intensive agriculture and habitat loss, it has become rare in many regions, but it is finding a new home in natural gardens.
