Poppies are generally considered extremely delicate and sensitive. However, this is not the case for the Iceland poppy. It is exceptionally robust and prefers cool temperatures. The color spectrum of this subarctic beauty ranges from yellow and white to vibrant orange-red. Iceland poppies are the ideal plant for gardens or containers that don't require constant care. The plant is rarely used medicinally anymore, although it was once valued in the cold north as a source of vitamin C to combat scurvy.
Natural habitat: The Iceland poppy originally comes from the subarctic zone. It can be found in Siberia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia, as well as in Northern Europe, northwestern Canada, and Alaska. There, it grows at altitudes between 300 and approximately 2,500 meters.
