Fragrant ground cover that brings stones to life

Creeping thyme is a low-growing, perennial subshrub distinguished by its fine, narrow, linear leaves. Reaching heights of just 10 to 15 cm, it forms dense, cushion-like mats and is ideally suited as a ground cover. From June to August, tiny, pale pink to violet flowers appear in dense spikes, magically attracting butterflies and bees. The intense, spicy fragrance of the leaves is characteristic of all thyme species. The Romans and Greeks valued thyme not only as a spice but also for its medicinal properties. In rock gardens, creeping thyme thrives among stones and in dry areas where other plants struggle.

Natural habitat: Creeping thyme originates from the heath and moorland landscapes of Europe and is now widespread throughout much of the continent. It prefers sandy, nutrient-poor soils and sunny locations where it can outcompete other plants.
