The giant among feather grasses develops dense, grey-green clumps up to 50 centimeters high, from which elegant, almost two-meter-high, golden-shimmering flower panicles rise during the flowering season, radiating beauty well into late autumn. This large ornamental grass never obstructs the view, as the flower panicles, hovering high above the foliage, create a transparent veil that evokes a magical atmosphere. Stipa gigantea is best displayed when planted among low-growing plants or as a solitary specimen in a flower bed or container. Even after flowering, the feather grasses remain attractive with their lingering yellow bracts well into winter.
Natural habitat: The Pyrenean giant feather grass is native primarily to southern Spain and Portugal.
