Silvery ear clusters with reddish autumn coloration
Foxtail barley is a perennial barley species that grows up to 60 centimeters tall, but due to its low frost resistance, it is usually cultivated as an annual. Its leaves are green and softly drooping in summer, and its silvery spikelets with long awns, which flower from June to August, turn beige with a slight reddish tinge towards the end of summer. The grass looks particularly attractive when planted in groups. The decorative flower heads can also be used in dried flower arrangements.
Natural habitat: Foxtail barley originates in Alaska and Canada, but it also occurs in East Asia.
