Rock carnation

A delicate cushion plant with the scent of cloves

This charming perennial forms dense, evergreen cushions of narrow, blue-green leaves and reaches a height of 10 to 20 cm. 
From May to July, it adorns itself with numerous pink to violet flowers that exude an intense, spicy-sweet fragrance – similar to cloves. The blossoms are not only a feast for the nose but also attract butterflies and bees. 
Traditionally, the rock pink is planted in rock gardens, where it looks particularly striking among rocks and pebbles. A little tip: The flowers are excellent for flavoring tea or desserts!

Natural habitat: The rock pink originally comes from the mountainous regions of Central Europe, where it grows on sunny, calcareous rocks and in dry meadows. Today, it is widespread in many gardens as a robust ornamental plant that also thrives in poor soils.
